You've got a goal. Maybe you've had it for months. Maybe for years. You can say it out loud, no problem: "I want to start my own thing." "I want to get healthy." "I want to earn an income from home."
But then comes the word that stops you cold.
But.
"I want to start my own thing, but I'm not good with technology."
"I want to earn an income from home, but I've failed before."
"I want to get healthy, but I never stick with anything."
It works like a cycle, and it works every single time. A belief creates a feeling. The feeling drives what you do, or what you don't do. What you do produces a result. And the result proves the belief right, so you believe it even more.
Believe you're not good enough, you'll feel defeated before you start. Feel defeated, you won't take the step. Don't take the step, nothing changes. And nothing changing becomes your proof that you were right all along.
But here's the good news, and it's better than most people realize. If a belief can run that cycle in the wrong direction, it can run it in the right one too.
So try this:
- Say your goal out loud, and listen for the "but."
- Write down whatever follows it. That's your limiting belief, caught in the open.
- Write the exact opposite, and start it with "because."
"I want to start my own thing, because I'm capable of learning, and I'm willing to work at it until it clicks."
"I want to earn an income from home, because I've learned from every attempt so far, and I'm not starting from scratch, I'm starting from experience."
Say that version out loud. Notice how it feels in your body. Different, right? That's not a trick. Feelings follow beliefs. Change the belief, and the feeling changes with it. And when the feeling changes, action gets a whole lot easier.
So here's my question for you: what's the goal you've been putting off, and what comes after your "but"?
Say it out loud. Write it down. Flip it. Then take one small step today, while you still feel it. Not the whole journey. Just the next step.
Drop your goal and your "but" in the comments. I'd love to hear it, and I'd love to hear what your flipped version sounds like.
